Jury reasons:

The company is awarded the Brandenburg Zukunftspreis because it innovates technologies for environmental protection. Berec Recycling GmbH produces new foils from old in order to supply the European foil industry. Prioritising quality, the company holds a leading position in its branch.

Founded in 1991, the company faced a disaster in 2007: almost two thirds of its production facilities were destroyed in a fire. Berec Recycling Company did not give up - not a single staff member was dismissed and production resumed within less than a year. The company has since constantly developed. Staff is being qualified in the company itself.
The company last year received the quality award “Quality and service in the Berlin region”. The jury described the company as being excellently managed.

Together with Berlin Technical University, Berec Recycling GmbH is working on a research and development project on the resource efficiency of polyethylene.

The company's environmental contribution to the region is exemplary: it is a member of the “Environmental partnering Berlin-Brandenburg” (Umweltpartnerschaft Berlin-Brandenburg). Its manager Günther Engelmann works for the environmental committee of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and he is founder of the “Werneuchen round table meetings on economy”.
